  • Pelvic floor physical therapy

  • Mental health care related to menopause

  • Bone and cardiovascular health services

  • Counseling and education on menopause management

That’s why the Improving Menopause Care for Veterans Act is an encouraging development. This 2025 bill tasks the Government Accountability Office with evaluating how menopause care is provided across the VA system.


It won’t transform care overnight, but it’s an important signal: menopause is being recognized as a vital part of women’s health, especially in systems where it has often been overlooked.



What Other States Are Doing: Building National Momentum


While New Jersey is setting a strong example, it’s not alone; other states are beginning to move in the right direction too:

  • California legislation is mandating insurance coverage for menopause care and requiring providers to complete specialized menopause training.

  • Illinois is expanding Medicaid access to hormone therapy for women experiencing natural menopause, not just those with surgically induced symptoms.

  • Louisiana is removing red tape by requiring insurers to cover menopause treatment and eliminating frustrating barriers like prior authorizations.

The Workplace Is Catching Up Too

Some organizations like Microsoft, Adobe, Genentech, and Healthfirst are already offering:

  • Access to menopause specialists or coaching

  • Mental health and well-being support

  • Flexible work accommodations
